Binchotan Charcoal Chopping Boards and Rice Scoops

Binchotan is a type of Japanese activated charcoal made from oak, long valued for its natural antibacterial and deodorising properties. Ihara Kihan's Binchotan products blend this charcoal into the material at a manufacturing level rather than applying it as a coating, giving an antibacterial rate of 99.9% that doesn't wear off with use.

The Binchotan chopping boards are black, which has a practical benefit beyond the antibacterial properties — the dark surface makes it easier to see lighter coloured ingredients while cutting. The Binchotan rice scoop is made from BPA-free polypropylene blended with charcoal, with a ribbed surface that prevents rice from sticking and is dishwasher safe up to 120°C.

The standard antibacterial chopping board range uses a non-porous surface treatment to inhibit bacterial growth between uses. Available in white and green, they are designed for everyday cutting and food prep with hygiene as the main consideration.
